Climate Change

Western Fuels Association

  • non profit cooperative
  • founded in 1973
  • supplies coal to consumerowned electric plants across the United States
  • members are diverse and experts in coal mining, coal procurement, and transportation management

Mission Statement: To provide a reliable supply of delivered coal at the lowest prudent cost

Vision Statement: To be the recognized leader at providing coal, transportation, and related services

Global Warming Research

  • invested heavily on global warming research
  • our scientists have provided many reports on the positive impacts of increased CO2
  • examples include a warmer/healthier climate, fast growing plants which results in more food, and new areas for crops

Rising Sea Levels Slowing Down

  • extreme weather will continue to be apparent with or without "global warming"
  • how we are affected is all about preparedness
  • "The impact of Climate Change is very low compared to the impact of climate itself"
  • sea levels have not been rising as much as people make it out to be
  • the impact of "global warming" will be small and the temperature of the will continue to rise regardless

Evidence

Black is the New Green

  • coal can be used cleanly through carbon capture
  • CCS(carbon capture and storage) strips out, purifies, and CO2 emissions from fossil fuel combustion
  • CO2 is captured during combustion and stored in a suitable place
  • coal WILL continued to be used!

Coal is Important!

  • coal is mined in 27 states
  • coal is the main source of electricity
  • coal deposits are enough to satisfy current energy needs worldwide for the next 300 years
  • 37% of the electricity worldwide is generated by coal
