The Book of Ivy

Name of the book should've been "The Book of Lots of Details That you Can't Skip Because if you do, you Will be Confused"

Characters

Ivy Westfall: The main character and narrator; Has to kill Bishop.

Bishop Lattimer: The president's only son; married to Ivy and is a very dedicated person to Ivy.

Callie Westfall: Ivy's sister; Has Ivy under her and her dad's influence over the whole time.

Victoria: Works at the court house as a defendent. A good friend to Ivy.

Setting

  • Set in a dystopian world of a world of almost all humans wiped off it.
  • Westfall is the main setting
  • There is a fence that surrounds Westfall that Bishop and Ivy goes through sometimes
  • The town is split in two; one side for the winning side, and one side for the losing side.

A) The main conflict is man vs self.

B) Ivy has trouble to bring herself to do her mission to kill Bishop troughout the book. Because of her falling in love for him, see ends up losing it all at the end. (I'm not going to spoil)

Plot

  • In between parts the book, were told about a war between the Lattimers and the Westfalls fighting for control, with the Lattimers winning.
  • Ivy is told by her family to kill Bishop after they marry.
  • Ivy marries Bishop; Bishop tries to comfort her.
  • They go to Bishop's house; Ivy freaks out since the plan was they were going to be at the president's house
  • Ivy and Bishop don't sleep in the same bed on the first night
  • There's some bonding time between Ivy and Bishop

Plot 2

  • Meets with Callie and Callie tells her not to bond with Bishop.
  • More bonding and deep emotion time.
  • Ivy starts working at the court house to find where the guns are located. Also meets Victoria.
  • Goes to president's house for dinner. Ends with some emotions.
  • Deals with convicts that will be put outside the fence with Victoria. Ivy leaves frightened.
  • Finds the guns the next day.

Plot 3

  • Again, more bonding and deep emotions between Bishop and Ivy
  • Bishop takes Ivy outside the fence to a lake area to bond
  • Ivy meets up with her father; starts questioning his views
  • The president hosts a dance; Ivy finds the code for the guns and gives the code to her father with regret
  • Callie gives Ivy a vile of poison; Ivy ends up turning herself in since she loves Bishop
  • Ivy goes to jail; she hears her family abandon her
  • Ivy is put outside the fence on the same day she was jailed; now has to live live outside the fence
