"The Raven"

By: Aarchisha Kumar

1. "Thrilled me--filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;"

2. " Leave my loneliness unbroken!--quit the bust above my door"

"pondered, weak and weary," "fantastic terrors" "within me burning"

"perfumed from an unseen censer" "Leave my loneliness unbroken!" "Take thy beak from out my heart,"

There was irony in the 2nd to last stanza when the Narrator is telling the Raven to "leave [his] loneliness" especially when just a few moments before he was asking the Raven many question about Lenore.

Deep grief and sorrow can push a person into going mad.

Connections

1. Both the Narrators in "Annabel Lee" and "The Raven" mourn the deaths of the women they dearly loved.

2. Both of the Narrators constantly reminded themselves of who they lost.

3. Both of poems hae a a dark, gloomy, depressed mood and tone.

Having grief over the loss of a loved one is not harming but reeling in that over and over will only give you pain for the rest of your life.
