In a post war United States, consumerism saw a massive rise in popularity, this was in large part due to a new influx of money in American homes in the years leading up to the Great Depression. During this time, women who primarily worked as homemakers were targeted by advertisers promising ways to make their lives easier, such as Christine Frederick

Christine Frederick

  • Author of "Selling Mrs Consumer"
  • Creator of the "efficient kitchen"
  • Although not the first, Frederick was a very influential advertiser, as she sold more than the products themselves, but rather the idea of a better quality of life for women, especially those who were primarily homemakers as was more common in this time.
