This event was a major factor that swayed the United States to join the allied forces, americans were on the ship along with weapons for the allies (even though the US was neutral in the war)
France issues helmets to soldiers to protect against shrapnel and other artillery. They weren't used initially because before WWI there was no need for protection against shrapnel because it didn't exist.

This 3 day battle was ruthless and was won by canadians after other countries failed. It showed that Canadians were more than competent at offensive warfare.
- England disagreed with the freedom of the seas point probably because they controlled the suez canal and that was a very economically rich blockade.
- France disagreed with the post war reparations because they thought they should be more punitive, probably just wanted to make germany pay for taking Alsace lorraine.
- The United states did not join the league of nations because they did not want to fight in foreign wars.

The Republic acted as the german government during the interwar time period, it ended due to the rise of nazi germany and the popularity of Adolf Hitler. Germans did not think of it as a legitimate regime and the country was greatly affected by the great depression. the flag changed from black, white, and red, to black, white, and yellow during this time.
Hitler was given the first class iron cross for bravery. He was then hospitalized due to temporary blindness because of a gas attack. he was still recovering when the war ended and was said to have suffered a second bout of blindness out of rage, and was extremely angry about Germany's loss in the war.

The League of Nations was created.Jan 10, 1920 Its goal was to promote international cooperation and achieve international peace and security. People often ignored them however becuase the league had no way to enforce their rules.
The germans hated the treaty so much they assassinated the foreign minister who signed it in 1922 and called the politicians who agreed to it “November Criminals." The picture below shows a woman buring german money because it was worthless due to extrreme inflation.
The Italo-Ethiopian War begins. (October 3, 1935 - May 5 1936)
Japanese rail tracks were destroyed in an explosion, Japan thought it was China and took land from them. The League of Nations found out that Japan was at fault and tried to stop them, but Japan promptly left the league, ignored their threats, and continued taking land from the chinese.
The league of nations condemned the invasion and placed sanctions on Italy, but the sanctions and the condemnation were weak and not taken seriously by some of the leagues members so they were ineffective, and Italy ignored them.
Hitler threatened to take land by invasion if the allies didn't give him the land, the allies signed the agreement because they didn't want to fight germany right after world war 1.
