what is it ?

• Magic: The Gathering is both a trading card and digital collectible card game created by Richard Garfield.

• Released in 1993 Magic was the first trading card game created and it continues to thrive, with approximately twenty million players

• Both players cast spells, artifacts, and creatures depicted on individual Magic cards to defeat their opponents.

• In 1999, Wizards of The Coast was acquired by Hasbro for $325 million, making Magic a Hasbro game.

• In September 2018 a a digital adaption of the card game, called Magic: The Gathering Arena was launched as an open Beta.

• The Pro Tour, introduced in 1996, is the highest form of competitive play for the Magic: The Gathering collectible card game.

• It consists of a series of tournaments held throughout the world, each requiring an invitation to participate. Every Pro Tour awards a total of $250,000 in cash prizes, with $50,000 going to the winner.

• Currently, five Pro Tours are held during a twelve-month season also known colloquially as a year.

• The Pro Tour Team Series celebrates and rewards players for doing well at Pro Tours over the course of a season as part of a team! Players form teams of 6 and compete throughout a premier play season on the Pro Tour.

• Top 4 teams at the conclusion of the 2018-19 Team Series Championship will win their share of a prize pool of over $200,000!

• Coverage of the Pro Tour heavily focuses on the team series with team rankings and identifying players' teams.
