James Baldwin was an American writer and Civil Rights activist. He wrote a variety of essays, novels, plays, and poems. He was born in Harlem, New York on August 2nd, 1924. He died December 1st, 1987, in Saint Paul de Vence, France.
He was best known for his semi-autobiographical novels and also plays that are centered on race, politics, and sexuality.
James Baldwin stood for human equality. He helped raise more awareness of racial and sexual oppression. He fought for Civil Rights in the Congress Of Racial Equality which caused him to travel across Southern America. He went on lecturing on his perspective on racial inequality. Then in 1957Balwin and Martin Luther king got acquainted during a trip throughout the South. This all had a profound influence on Baldwin's writing. Yet that encounter also assisted in deepening his lifelong commitment to social justice.
