Nuclear Processes

Fission

Fission

Nuclear fission occurs when an atom splits into two or more smaller atoms, most often the as the result of neutron bombardment. So, the amount of particles are not increasing or decreasing, they are simply splitting or dividing themselves

Uranium-235 Equation:

Fusion

Fusion

Nuclear fusion is when two small, light nuclei join together to make one heavy nucleus. Fusion reactions occur in stars where two hydrogen nuclei fuse together under high temperatures and pressure to form a nucleus of a helium isotope.

Alpha Decay

Alpha decay is a nuclear decay process where an unstable nucleus changes to another element by shooting out a particle composed of two protons and two neutrons.
