Introduction

The ancient chamorro people were very skilled when it came to making tools. They made many kinds of tools. Such as cups, knives, and scrapers made from stones, shells, and bones.

Adze

Adzes

Made from shells and stones, the adzes were useful when it came to chopping down trees. This tool was actually used to shape latte stones. Adzes could also be made using Tridacna (giant clam) and Terebra (snail shells).

Mortars and pestles

Mortar & Pestles

Is a set of two simple tools used in the kitchen, laboratory, and pharmacy from the Stone Age to the present day to crush and grind ingredients or substances into a fine paste or powder.

Knives & Scrapers

Knives are used for scaling, cutting and gutting fish. While scrapers are used to peel peel fruits or scale fish. These tools are important functions in food preparations.

Chisels

A chisel is a sharp-edged tool made by stone and shell. It's used for cutting or sharping wood, stone, and metal.

Awls

Awls are small pointed tools for poking holes. These tools were useful for sewing together jewlery, making ordaments, and preparing thatch for houses. They were mostly made of bones. Since there weren't large native animals, it wasn't unusual to use human bones.
