Dickens was born in Portsmouth on the 7th of Feb. 1812.

He died of stroke in 1870

  • Charles was the second born of eight children.
  • Because of financial difficulties, they settled in Camden Town, London, England.
  • At the age of 12 Charles worked in a factory that handled shoe polish.
  • His father was imprisoned due to debts
  • He experienced loneliness as a child and this inspired his books

  • he studied Law but he couldn't finish his studies

  • He became a Reporter in the Coarts of Law

  • In 1836 he published his first paper.

  • After this success he published one of his most famous novels: Oliver Twist

His first work which became extremely popular was: The Pickwick Papers.

It tells the adventures of a group of eccentric people who are travelling around England.

He had a great success with it and he could earn a lot of money with which he managed to travel in Europe and even in the United States.
