Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Big Idea:
A lifestyle of love in action is proof positive of salvation
- love doesn't earn salvation it's the show I am saved.
- You can love someone without feeling love for them
- You can love someone without agreeing with everything they do
- Love is an action, a decision of my will
- Love isn't possible without being with someone

Love
is not optional

God's people love others...if you don't love others you're not God's people

Reason #2: Love isn't always Reciprocal--vs.13

John 15:18-19
"If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you." (NLT)

To love is life--vs.14-15
Love gives life
Hatred is spiritually equal to murder
Matthew 5:21
you have heard that it was said to those of old, you shall not murder, and whoever murders will be liable to judgment. But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment…and whoever says you fool will be liable to the hell of fire.
Ways we hate instead of love:
- When we wish bad things happen to others
- When we detest being around someone or thinking about them
- When we want to see someone fail
- When we get so angry with someone we won't or can't forgive them
- When we refuse to help someone in need.

the Standard of love for us is the same as the standard Jesus set...sacrificial love for others.

Called to be givers to others in need
