The revolt, was the largest servile uprising in United States history, also named after the owner of the plantation, Manual Andry, where the uprising originated.
As a result of the 1811 revolt, the Louisiana legislature and those in several other slaveholding states and territories, passed new and tougher slave control laws.

On this date in 1811, Black slaves rebelled against their white masters in Louisiana. Often called the German Coast Uprising, Charles Deslondes and other slaves began the revolt on the plantation of Manual Andry. The Deslondes plantation surrounded the Andry plantation.

Slave revolts were most likely when slaves outnumbered whites, when masters were absent, during periods of economic distress, and when there was a split within the ruling elite. They were also most common when large numbers of native-born Africans had been brought into an area at one time.
The German Coast uprising started between January 8, 1811 – January 10, 1811.
The 1811 German Coast uprising was a revolt of black slaves in parts of the Territory of Orleans. The uprising occurred on the east bank of the Mississippi River in what is now St. John the Baptist, St. Charles and Jefferson Parishes, Louisiana.
By the end of the uprising, the rebels had murdered two whites but more than ninety-five rebels were killed.
during the uprising and in the retaliation, making the suppression of this revolt the bloodiest in the history of the country.
Important Fact : Between 64 and 125 enslaved men marched from sugar plantations in and near present-day LaPlace on the German Coast toward the city of New Orleans. They collected more men along the way.
