Self Reliance

Oprah Winfery is an African American media , executive, actress, talk show host, and producer. She is best known for her talk show The Oprah Winfery show, she also has her own TV network called Oprah Winfery Network (OWN). "You are where you are in life because of what you believe is possible for yourself." The transcendental attitude is that you should be self-reliance . You should be your OWN person and believe in yourself. No matter who or what your are she always advices people to work hard and keep trying.

Example

Nonconformity:

"To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for all men, -- that it genius." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Steve Jobs is the perfect nonconformist because everything he created was what everyone considered impossible. Instead of listening to everyone, he believed in his ow thoughts and considered nothing impossible. Steve Jobs' vision was one that envisioned the future of our society today. He has created products that defy the possibilities of technology today.

Steve Jobs set new standards with every product he released rather than being limited by the technology available. For Emerson, Steve Jobs would be considered genius.

Importance of Nature:

"Every spirit builds itself a house; and beyond its house is a world; and beyond its world, a heaven. Know then, that the world exists for you." -Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Wall-E is about the destruction of the Earth from overproduction. All of the surplus created was dumped onto Earth, making Earth act livable to the human race. All the human end up evacuating and leave robots called Wall-E, to fix up Earth. In the meantime, in space humans become too caught up in technology and eventually become obese. Years later, one Wall-E survives, and find a sign of nature in planer Earth. Overall Wall-E showed the consequences of not caring for mother nature, and how it destroys life as we get to know.

Favoring Intuition over reason:

"Trust thyself; every heart vibrates to that iron string."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

In Paulo Coelho's novel, The Alchemist, the character Santiago falls in love with Fatima at first sight. In the novel, Coelho stresses the fact that if you lay eyes on someone for the first time and fall madly in love with them, trust that gut feeling. He shows that intuition is more important than reason: it probably isn't logical to fall in love with someone in first sight, but if you truly love them you would know.

Simplified Life:

"Simplicity, Simplicity , Simplicity! I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand; instead of a million count half of dozen, and keep your accounts on your thumb nail."

-Henry David Thoreau

The song "Hakuna Matata" from the Lion King is a phrase that translates to "no worries". By having no worries, you are living a simple life style and keeping your affairs or problems to a minimum. If you are care free and have no worries that will lead you to a simple life.
