The official launch of the Goals for Sustainable Development coincided with the beginning of 2016, guiding the world on the road ahead over the next 15 years: the countries, in fact, have committed themselves to reach them by 2030.
The threats of international homicide, violence against children, human trafficking and sexual violence are important to address to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development.
They pave the way for the provision of access to justice for all and for building effective, accountable institutions at all levels.
To tackle these challenges and build a more peaceful, inclusive societies, there needs to be more efficient and transparent regulations put in place and comprehensive, realistic government budgets. One of the first steps towards protecting individual rights is the implementation of worldwide birth registration and the creation of more independent national human rights institutions around the world.
End fame, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture
Although the situation has improved in many countries, there are still many people around the world who are starving or suffering from malnutrition. Worldwide, undernourishment affects nearly 800 million people, particularly women and children. The 2030 Agenda aims to eradicate hunger and all forms of malnutrition anywhere in the world.
The quality of the food is as important as the quantity. The objective also includes economic aspects, including doubling agricultural productivity and small farmers' incomes by 2030. To ensure that increased food production does not harm the environment, Objective 2 also includes instructions to ensure sustainable agriculture.
