What happens

What happens during this celebration?

They treat the body with dignity and respect. The funeral is started with a wake (gathering a the home of the deceased) usually including family and friends. The body is not usually kept in a funeral home, until the wake or funeral. At the wakes they usually have a feast will at the people close to the deceased, all those who have come to pay their respects are expected to eat. The Blackfoot tribe believe that all humans are relatives to nature and other living things, when they are alive they must respect non human living things because they will be returned to the earth by burial to continue the cycle of life. In their culture they are not scared of death but treat it with respect and as something they share with other living things.
