  • Erythropoiesis is the formation of RBCs
  • It begins in the red bone marrow, this process is known as Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC)
  • HSC differentiate into proerythroblasts, which becomes RBCs
  • Proerythroblasts undergo mutation to become erythroblast. These cells synthesize hemoglobin, which is a protein that transport oxygen.

Erythroblast mature into normoblast.

Normoblast mature and eject thier nucleus to make room for hemoglobin.

The Normoblast without their nucleus become reticulocytes and they enter the blood stream.

Reticulocytes lose their remaining organelles and become mature erythrocytes.

Blood is formed through a complex process involving the production of various blood cells in the bone marrow.

Red blood cells are produced in the bone marrow through a process called erythropoiesis.

From Formation to Removal

When red blood cells become old or damaged, they are removed by the spleen and liver, and their components are recycled.

The spleen filters out old and damaged RBCs. Macrophages in the spleen break down these RBCs by phagocytosis.
