In this STEM activity students will participate/build a solar oven that will cook a s'more. This is the perfect science experiment to do at the end, beginning, or hottest time of year. It teaches students the power of solar energy, green-living, and how the vary in box sizes/materials will create different results. Students will experiment with the reflector flap of their solar oven facing different directions, oven door size, outside temperature, etc. and use their STEM brains. It is great to talk about and discuss how the smores are being baked from solar energy while waiting and watching the process.
1. 2.2 Leader: As an educational leader according to ISTE standards educators seek out opportunities for leadership to support student empowerment, shape, advance, and accelerate a shared vision within technology. By building solar oven s'mores students will lead and work together to assemble their oven. They will also need to share a vision of what they want their solar oven to look like; the size of the door, angle of lid propped open, etc.
2. 2.4 Collaborator: ISTE standard the collaborator involves students dedicating time to collaborate with colleagues and other students to improve practice, discover, and share resources. In the S'more Solar Oven STEM activity collaboration amongst peers will be crucial in the results of a successful solar oven.

1. Cut the "oven door" flap on top of the pizza box. Size depends on what you are cooking and how much access needed.
2. (Optional Step) Decorate solar ovens with colored markers, glitter, etc.
3. Glue black construction paper to the bottom of the box. Black paper absorbs heat inside of the box.
4. Glue aluminum foil to the inside of the door. Foil reflects sun into the oven.
5. Tape the plastic over the opening of the door. This will allow the air inside the box to heat up but keep the heat trapped inside the box.
6. Add a graham cracker, marshmallow, and piece of chocolate inside the oven.
7. Place your oven outside in the sun. Option to tape a wooden skewer to prop the lid open at the ideal angel.
9. Enjoy science and smores!
