3-2-1 is a mathematical symbol that indicates:
3: Number of the museum’s basic principles (sustainability, heritage, and innovation).
2: Number of main sports in Qatar (football and handball).
1: A symbol of unity and common goal.
The two separate buildings that make up the museum were designed by Spanish architect Juan Sepeña. The main building is attached to the famous Khalifa International Stadium with a second spiral building from which everything is accessible. The spiral is inspired by the five rings of the Olympic Games and also glows at night, giving the museum an exciting look. The museum entrance looks like a race track, and the carved grille provides shade on hot days. The museum is divided into seven galleries, showcasing the journey of various sports from the eighth century BC to the present day. The galleries are beautifully designed, each telling a different story about the sport.
Sibina covered the cylindrical structure in rectangular glass panels that reflect the stadium's surroundings.
Jali-like screens, traditionally used in Islamic cultures to provide privacy, were placed horizontally between the rings and the glazed facade, providing a decorative element that ties the building to the history of Qatar and its culture.
