Janet Ahlberg
Janet Ahlberg was born in 1944, in England. She loved to draw and sometimes drew advertisements as a part-time job, but her dream was to illustrate books.
Allan Ahlberg
Allan Ahlberg was born in 1938, in England. He grew up in a family that were quite poor. He says the baby in the book Peepo! is based on him.

Janet and Allan Ahlberg met in teacher training college. Janet didn't really want to be a teacher, she felt she was too shy. She asked Allan to write a book she could illustrate, and they began working together. They got married and had a daughter.

Fun facts about The Jolly Postman
2. Allan used to be a postman.
He wasn't very good at it though, and once he posted the letters instead of delivering them!
1. The idea for The Jolly Postman came from their daughter Jessica. When she was only two her favourite thing was to take letters out of envelopes and push them back in!

3. It took years for The Jolly Postman to be published because it was so tricky to make and print all the tiny envelopes in the book.
