In 1947 the Mau Mau rebel movement began.

In 1952 due to the Mau Mau rebellion the government declared a state of emergency which lasted eight years.

Jomo Kenyatta was sentenced to seven years in jail in 1953 for leading the Mau Mau rebellion.

With the help of Jomo Kenyatta on December 12, 1963 Kenya became independent

In 1964 The independent republic of Kenya was formed. It was ruled as a one party state by the KANU.

During the 1980 Daniel Arap Moi attempted to transform Kenya from a one party status into a DE Jure status.

Daniel finally restored a multi-party system in Kenya in the year 1991.

2002

In 2002 Moi was banned from running in another election. This election was won by Mwai Kibaki.

In 2007 Kibaki was accused of electoral fraud which resulted in Kenyan crisis.

In 2013 Kibaki was succeeded by his rival Uhura Kenyatta. There were allegations that his opponent Raila Odinga actually won.

Soon after Kenya was declared a one party state a riot broke loose after president Kenyatta came to visit.

In 1963 the Union Jack was replaced with a black, red and green flag that was a symbol the new nation.
