What is the RAAF?

The RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) are all of the australian pilots who fought for Australia in both world war one and world war two. The Royal Australian Air Force grew from a relatively minor air arm in 1939 to the world’s fourth largest in 1945. In the meantime it made a very substantial contribution to the Allies’ victory in World War two.

The Battle of the Coral Sea, fought off the Queensland coast in 1942, was a very important battle in shaping Australia's future. All of the fighting was done between the aircraft of the two sides and it saved Australia from possible Japanese invasion.

World War II was the deadliest military battle in history. Over 60 million people were killed, which was about 3% of the 1940 world population there was about 2.3 billion people in the world back then.

In ww2 it was one of the bloodiest and deadliest fight for the RAAF with approximately 6271 deaths.
