Prepositions and Prepositional Phrases

A preposition relates a noun or a pronoun that follows it to another word in the sentence.

Ex. "The book is on the table".

A prepositional phrase is a group of words that has certain qualities:

  • Begins with a preposition and ends with either a noun or pronoun, which is the object of the preposition.
  • Functions as an adjective by telling what kind or which one, or as an adverb by telling how, when, or where.
