What is it?
- An SSD is a type of storage where data is stored on interconnected flash-memory chips that retain the data even when there's no power flowing through them.

- An electron trapped inside the middle layer reads as a 0, outside the middle is read as a 1
- Data must be read, deleted or written in blocks
- Data cannot be overwritten without being erased first

advantages:

- Lower power consumption
- Extended battery life in portable devices
- Devices stay cooler
- Less susceptible to damage
- Silent in operation
- Lighter in weight
disadvantages
- Over time, they can have a higher chance of corrupting data
- Ratio between price to amount of storage is higher than other storage methods
