In this fast-moving world, people want to reach their destinations as soon as possible. Some apps suggest routes which can make us reach the destination early and other apps show all possible ways with traffic conditions.

The goal of our project is to design a pothole detection system that assists the driver in avoiding potholes on the roads by giving them prior warnings. For example, if the driver is approaching a pothole may be warned by a buzzer regarding the pothole on the road.

Due to weather conditions, improper construction, and vehicle overloading, the roads are getting damaged. the scope of the project lies where the irregularity of the public roads affects the people

SOLUTION...

1. The solution is we are going to make a system that recognizes the potholes on the road using SENSORS and CAMERAS.

2. By using MACHINE LEARNING we program in such a way that the sensors and cameras will be collecting real-time data by scanning through the roads.

3. If the device finds any potholes it runs through the algorithm programmed in it and uploads the location and image of the potholes to the cloud

4. This system activates when it finds any potholes and assists the driver in avoiding potholes on the road by giving the driver a prior warning through alarms which will be inside the driver’s cabin

5. If the driver does not take any action to avoid it, signals will be sent to the braking unit so that the vehicle applies the break and gradually decreases the speed of the vehicle

Target market and commercializing

1. The average percentage of car ownership all over India is a mere 7.5%. Interestingly, the car ownership per household percentage is higher in hilly parts like Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, where on average 22% of households have cars.

2. The automotive industry in India is the fourth-largest in the world as per 2021 statistics. In 2022, India became the fourth largest country in the world by a valuation of the automotive industry. As of 2022, India is the 3rd largest automobile market in the world, surpassing Japan and Germany in terms of sales.

3. In October 2022, the total production of passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers, and quadricycles was 2,191,090 units

1. Potholes are making it more dangerous for riders to drive. These issues are more concerning right now because of the increasing number of accidents and mortality rates. So detecting potholes will help drivers to avoid accidents therefore it will decrease the number of accidents and reduce the mortality rates.

2. It helps to avoid any vehicle damage, Potholes can generate damages such as flat tire and wheel damage, impact and damage on the lower part of a vehicle, sudden braking, and blocking of steering wheel operation. So this can be reduced by pothole detection.

3. It helps government authorities to maintain roads.

How it is innovation

Now what about the vehicle which is behind that vehicle that just got slowed due to the pothole ahead? So the other vehicle would have sensors that would receive the signals from the vehicle ahead of it.

And these signals would range up to nearer distance (approximately 50 meters). So the vehicles which are nearer to the vehicle in front would automatically get slowed and would prevent the accidents. So basically our aim is to implement this idea in all the upcoming vehicles so that this system can function as mentioned.

This wouldn’t happen if the vehicle doesn’t have the required technology. So in this booming technological world, we would expect this technology in the upcoming vehicles.
