Suspense

You know a story is exciting when you are so anxious to find out what happens that you can't put it down.

A sense of excitment, tension, dread, or fear about what will happen next.

How does an Author Write Suspense?

How can an author write suspense?

1. Describe a character's anxiety or fear

2. Create vivid descriptions of dramatic sights

or sounds

3. Repeat words, phrases, or character's actions

Evaluate the Narrator

Who really is the narrator?

Just as you can't trust every person you meet, you can't trust every narrator, or character who tells a story.

Narrator's Reliability

THEN ask yourself:

"Do any of the above raise

my suspicions?"

Is the narrator reliable?

Reliability = Trustworthiness

To determine if a narrator is reliable, pay attention to his or her:
