Secondary Condumers

Phytoplankton

Achnanthidiumgladius

PhytoPlankton

Phytoplankton are tiny microscopic organisms that get energy from the sun. Phytoplankton provide food for many different organisms and are the basis of many ecosystems.

Algae

Sargassum albemarlense

Algae

Algae is actually a group of different organisms and isn't just one species. Algae are sometimes considered plants and other times are considered portists (which don't fall into any of the other catagories). There are many types of algae around the galapagos and one of them is Sargassum albemarlense.

Zooplankton

copepods

Zooplankton

Zooplankton are a group of different species catagorized becuase they all just drift around. Some species that are included in zooplankton are krill, sea snails, and offspring of fish.

Shrimp

Caridea

Shrimp

Shrimp are crustaceans that are found all over the world and have a variety of different species in the genis. Shrimp are relatively small creatures. They are omnivorous creatures and have evolved many different ways to get food

Stripped Mullet Fish

Mugil cephalus

Stirpped Mullet Fish

Stripped mullet fish are fish that live all around warmer water like the equator. They primarily like to live near coasts and rivers. Adults grow from 9-19.5 inches long and can go at fast speeds.

Giant Manta Ray

Mobula birostris

Giant

Manta Ray

Giant manta ray have a wingspan of over 29 feet. They are filter feeders that primarily eat zooplankton. They are migratory species and live all around the world near the equator.

Tiger Shark

Galeocerdo cuvier

Tiger Shark

Giant manta ray have a wingspan of over 29 feet. They are filter feeders that primarily eat zooplankton. They are migratory species and live all around the world near the equator.

Cystisoma

Cystisoma fabricii

Cystisoma

Cystisoma is a small crustacean adapted to living in a deep sea habitat between 100 and 700 meters deep. Because of how deep they live they have evolved bigger eyes so that it can see it's prey and predators a lot better. It has also evolved to be see through making it extremly dificult for predators to detect and catch it

Hatchetfish

Argyropelecus

Hachetfish

Hatchetfish is deep water fish that lives in the bathypelagic zone which is between 200 and 1000 meters deep. Hatchetfish have developed good eyesigh, however it only works on things above it and cannot detect if anything aproaches from below.

Bristlemouth

Gonostomatidae

Bristlemouth

Bristlemouth is deep water fish that lives between 300 and 4000 meters deep. There a lot of different types of species under the bristlemouth genus that live all over the ocean. Bristlemouth have one of the largest populations with there being billions of them.

Lanternfish

myctophids

Lantern Fish

Lantern fish is deep water fish that lives in the bathypelagic zone which is between 300 and 1500 meters deep. Lantern fish are named that way because they glow in the dark

Giant Deep Water Manta Ray

Mobula Profundus

Giant Deepwater Manta Ray

The giant deep water manta ray is very similar to the giant oceanic manta ray however, this manta ray has adapted to living in deeper water gaining trauts like better eyesight. It has also adapted to eating faster prey so it now has a bigger fin and tail so that it can catch them. Another trait it evolved is to have a larger mouth and wider denticles to catch larger prey
