Today I am going to talk about who Gandhi was,his personl life,the Indian independance movement and how he died.

WHO HE WAS
Mahatma Gandhi was a big reason India got independance from Britian. He was born on October, 2nd , 1869 in bombay,Britsh India.He was also the leader of the Indian independance movement.

PERSONAL LIFE
Gandhi went to Londan to study law when he was about 16 years old.When he came back from India he couldn't find a job to be a lawer so he went to South Africa wicth was also then a country ruled by britian .He lived there for 21 years and when he was there he faced a lot of discrimination because of his skin and culture.Once he was kicked out of a train because he did not leave the first class section even though he had a first ticket.He thought on that day that should he go to India and fight for his rights.When he came back to India he joined the poltics for India's Congress and later he became the leader.After he started the Indian idependance movement.

The Indian independance movement was the movement of Britian leaveing India.Gandhi started it and was the leader.In the movement he led the salt march where many people walked for 25 days, 10 km each day to the coast of Gujart where everyone picked a grain of salt.Thousands of people were arrested for doing that including Gandhi.Gandhi was arrested many times in South Africa and in India. Gandhi thought that all cultures and relgions were equal but many people wanted India to be split and for the cultures to go into it's own countries.Gandhi did not want that he only wanted independance.Finally India got independance in 1947 but the country was split into 2 India and Pakistan.On that day instead of being happy, Gandhi was crying.
DEATH
On January, 30, 1948 in Delhi, India Gandhi was shot 3 times in the chest and killed.
