Al Capone vs Bugs Moran

Al Capone

Al Capone was a mob boss in the mid 20th centery who quickly rose to the top of the organized crime scene, when he suddenly collapsed leaving people still talking about it today.

Facts

  • Al Capone was born in January 17, 1899 in Brooklyn, New York.
  • His parents who were Teresa and Gabriele had 8 other kids.
  • He dropped out of school at just 14 years old after getting expelled for hitting his Cathlic teacher.
  • He worked some odd jobs like at a candy store and playing professional baseball, until marying Mae Josephine Coughlin, and together they had one child named Sonny.
  • He gained profit from illigal sales of liquor.
  • Alphonse Gabriel Capone was his realname and he was also called "Scareface" because when he was woking as a bouncer he insulted a woman , and she slashed his face.
  • The federal authorities became intent on jailing Capone and charged him with 22 counts of tax evasion, and he was convicted of five counts in 1931.
  • He was convicted and sentenced to 11 years in federal prison.
  • Capone showed signs of neurosyphilis early in his sentence and became increasingly debilitated before being released after almost eight years of incarceration. On January 25, 1947, he died of cardiac arrest after a stroke.

Bugs Moran

Bugs Moran was a convicted gangster who was active in the Prohibition-era Chicago. He worked for the Irish mob after having a troubled life as a teen.

  • Moran was born Adelard Cunin to French immigrant Jules Adelard Cunin and Marie Diana Gobeil.
  • Adelard Leo Cunin was his name, but he was mainly known as George Clarence " Bugs " Moran.
  • He was born August 21, 1893 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, U.S.
  • He attended Cretin High School, a private Catholic school in Saint Paul, but left at the young age of 18 to join a local juvinile gang.
  • He was put in jail 3 times before 21, so he fled to chicago where he got in more trouble with the law.
  • On April 30, 1939, Moran was convicted of conspiracy to cash $62,000 worth of American Express checks. He was freed on appeal when he posted a bond; Then he fled but was captured and not released until December 21, 1944.
  • 17 years after being one of the richist gangsters in chicago, he was left almost pennyless.
  • On July 6, 1946, he was arrested for his involvement in the robbery of a Dayton, Ohio tavern on June 28, 1945, and he received a sentence of 20 years after being found guilty. He was paroled in 1956, but was immediately arrested for his role in the 1945 robbery of a bank in Ansonia, Ohio. He was found guilty in 1957 and sentenced to 10 more years in prison.
  • Bugs Moran would die of lung cancer in prison in 1957 at the age of 63

Sparks between Scarface and Bugs started to fly when they stared to interere with eachothers liquor trades. When neither would backdown when money and power was on the line things would start to get messy.

The Massacre

  • Booze back then was just as crusial as the drug trade nowadays.
  • Dean O'Banion and his mostly Irish group, including Bugs Moran, became known as the North Side Gang and Al Capone as the leader of the Italian mob on the South Side.
  • Al caught wind of an operation run by Moran's North Side Gang in a garage at 2122 North Clark Street.
  • He sent his men there dresed as police officers and lined Moran's men against the wall, who probably thought theyd get arrested and spend a couple hours in jail, but instead all 7 of his men were slaughtered.
  • This event took place on Valintines day, 1929 hence the name St. Valentine's Day Massacre.
  • The fued between the two mob bosses lasted for 18 years.

After Math

After the massacre Bug's decided to get some revenge on Al Capone after his mob went down.

Who and What happend

Jack McGurn

  • Jack McGurn was one of Capone's men from the masacre that had men sent by Bugs to kill him.
  • After intense surgery his shot to the chest didn't kill him, but long after his retirement 3 men with machine guns murdered him.
  • After the St. Valentine's Day Massacre Bugs Moran's mob was crippled and it would never recover.
  • When Al knocked out most of his mob Bugs was forced to resort to petty crimes.
