Overview

  • The Structure consists of 3 basic levels
  • Everyone was a part of a class, except clergy, who were people that held religious services. Clergy had special privileges regardless of where they were in the pyramid.

  • In the Byzantine Empire if you worked hard enough you had the ability to move up, or if something happened you could also move down.
  • Ex.) A merchant in the middle class could become a business owner with the stuff they trade, make a lot of money, and become an aristocrat
