Are these groups of words sentences? How can you make these good sentences?

E

You Already Know...

A sentence MUST have a subject and a predicate.

A sentence fragment is missing one or both of these sentence parts. A fragment does not express a complete thought. You can correct sentence fragments by supplying the missing sentence parts.

INCORRECT: I want to talk to you. About a summer job.

CORRECT: I want to talk to you about a summer job.

A run-on sentence is two or more sentences that are run together with commas or without any punctuation. Often you cannot tell where one thought ends and the next begins.

INCORRECT: Uncle Frank is a writer Aunt Jill is one too.

INCORRECT: Ann read their book, she loved it, she will read it again, then she will give it to me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can correct a run-on sentence by separating each thought into a sentence of its own.

CORRECT: Uncle Frank is a writer. Aunt Jill is one too.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes you can combine the parts of a run-on sentence into a compound subject, a compound predicate, a compound sentence, or a complex sentence.

CORRECT: Ann read their book and loved it. She will read it again, and then she will give it to me.

CORRECT: Ann read their book and loved it. After she reads it again, she will give it to me.
