Scotland's weather is mostly cool and rainy. It is influenced by the North Atlantic Drift. Which is a warm sea current from the Caribbean, which keeps Scotland's coast ice free in winter.

Highland Dancing

Highland Dancing is a style of competitive solo dancing developed in the Scottish Highlands in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is for both woman and men. For the highland dances you wear a kilt. For the national dances the girls wear an aboyne and the men wear their kilts. In the past the men just did the highland dances and the woman just did the nationals, but today both men an woman can do both.

Bagpipes

Bagpipes the instrument of Scotland. They use them for dancing and in band they play with drummers also. One of the famous songs that they play is Scotland the Brave. You can compete in piping also. You can either do a solo or group competition.

Drumming

Scottish drumming is a unique and demanding discipline. It borrows elements from Swiss and American rudimental drumming. You can also compete in drumming. You can compete solo or in a group (band). Most of the time the snare drum starts the band off before the bagpipes start.

In Scotland they have some different foods than they have in America. In Scotland they eat haggis, Cullen Skink, Gin, Shortbread, and many more. Scotland is famous for their Haggis and Shortbread. They say don't leave before trying them.

History of Scotland

In the 6th century people from Ireland called Scots, invaded which is now Scotland. Scotland is known for their castles. The oldest castle is the Aberdour Castle. The Scottish flag today is blue with two white strips but it was not always like that. It used to be a white cross with a red background. By around 1540 the legend King Angus had the idea of the background like the blue sky, so they changed the red to blue.

In Scotland you can do many things like go to the Edinburgh Castle, go see the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, or just go sight seeing. The Military Tattoo is where Highland Dancer dance, people play the bagpipes, and drums and perform over a long period of time.
