Manson family members with shaved heads during the trial
The trial for these murders started on June 15, 1970. Linda Kasabian, a former member of the Manson Family, was the main witness for the prosecution. She was granted immunity to testify, which she accepted. Manson and the four other murderers were put on trial, resulting in many antics, such as the shaving of their heads and the mass gathering of Manson Family members outside of the courtroom. With a very noisy and disruptive case ensuing, it got to the point where the defense rested their case, as well as the prosecution. The 5 were sentenced to death, but the laws at the time deemed that unconstituional, essentially granting them all life in prison.
