The capiatl of Taiwan is Taipei. 10% of the people in Taiwan live in Taipei. Taipei has one of the tallest buildings in the world and Jade mountain is the highest mountain in the region (13,000 feet).
When you visit Taiwan they have morning prayers at 4:00 a.m. The Martyrs Shrine is where all of the soldiers who died in war are honored. Night markets are the cornerstone of Taiwanese life. Taroko Nationl Park covers an area of 37,000 acres. Orchid Isalnd is Taiwan's most remote island. In Orchid Island they have the smallest but most traditional Aboriginal tribe (the Yami people). In the Yami tribe the men wear special head gear and they watch the women dance on special events.

1400s Large number of Chinese from Fujian province migrated to Taiwan
1517 Portugese sailors landed at Taiwan. They called it Formosa which means beatiful isalnd.
1684-1887 During the Ch'ing period more fujianese mirgrated to Taiwan.
1895 Many Taiwanese residents objected to Japense rule.
1911 The Ch'ing dnasty collasped.
In World War 2 Japan drafted Taiwanese men into its army
1917 Taiwan has suffered diplomatic difficulties. Communist China took over as the Chinese representitive to the U.N.
DDP is Taiwan's biggest oppostion party. It is known for its positive stand on Taiwan's independance
