Where is it

"The heart of ancient Persia is in what is now southwest Iran, in the region called the Fars. In the second half of the 6th century B.C.E., the Persians (also called the Achaemenids) created an enormous empire reaching from the Indus Valley to Northern Greece and from Central Asia to Egypt."

The Persian Empire is the name given to a series of dynasties centered in modern-day Iran that spanned several centuries—from the sixth century B.C. to the twentieth century A.D. The first Persian Empire, founded by Cyrus the Great around 550 B.C., became one of the largest empires in history

He founded the first Persian Empire, also known as the Achaemenid Empire, in 550 B.C. The first Persian Empire under Cyrus the Great soon became the world's first superpower."

"Following the collapse of Late Bronze Age societies from the eastern Mediterranean to the Indus Valley, the Achaemenid Empire of Persia filled the void by uniting the lands of the region under the control of a single political power. Under its 'King of Kings,' they were able to united the complex societies of the Nile (Egypt), the Tigris and Euphrates (Mesopotamia), and the Indus (Harappa) into a single empire."

"The Achaemenid Empire (First Persian Empire) was an imperial state of Western Asia founded by Cyrus the Great and flourishing from c. 550-330 B.C.E. The empire’s territory was vast, stretching from the Balkan peninsula in the west to the Indus River valley in the east. The Achaemenid Empire is notable for its strong, centralized bureaucracy that had, at its head, a king and relied upon regional satraps (regional governors). The Achaemenid Empire (First Persian Empire) was an imperial state of Western Asia founded by Cyrus the Great and flourishing from c. 550-330 B.C.E. Modern Middle Eastern

Where is it

Just as Western Civilization is largely based around some very influential powers, Eastern Civilization traditionally circles around the nations of China, Korea, and Japan.

Anatomically modern humans arose in Africa about 300,000 years ago, and reached behavioural modernity about 50,000 years ago.

When did it start

Confucius says: the East rules and the West drools. Okay, Confucius never said that. But had he lived today, he might have. Cultures of East Asia have a long history behind them and while each is unique, many of their beliefs and traditions can be loosely categorized into what we call Eastern Civilization. Just as Western Civilization is largely based around some very influential powers, Eastern Civilization traditionally circles around the nations of China, Korea, and Japan. From ancient beginnings to their modern cultures, these regions have impacted millions of lives over time and had major impacts on the rest of the world as well.

How did it start

Friends and foes

With overlapping civil wars in Syria and Iraq, a new flare-up of violence between Israel and the Palestinians, and tense nuclear talks with Iran, Middle Eastern politics are more volatile than ever and longtime alliances are shifting.
