About 5 and 10 million years ago, the Celts, built mysterious stone circles aligned with the solstice and the equinox. Over the years, the Vikings, who settled on the islands and remote areas of Scotland, mingling with the Celts. The Viking influence can still be seen at festivals like Up Helly Aa, in the Shetland Islands.

Scotland is the birthplace of golf and therefore contains some of the most famous golf courses in the world.

Clans (families) were identified by the type of tartan. The clan chief always had a castle as his base, and other family members lived nearby in houses. With many fights over territory, the clans' past is rather bloody. Only one thing held them together: defending Scotland's identity.

Edinburgh Castle is an ancient fortress and one of the most iconic places in the city, as well as being one of the most visited. In this castle you can see the jewels of the Scottish Crown: the crown the sword and the scepter. It was in this castle that lived one of my favorite royal characters of the Middle Ages, Mary the Queen of Scots.
