Southeast Asian Rainforest

Ben Rossiter

Organization of an Ecosystem

Ecosystem

Organism: One Malayan Tiger

Species: Malayan Tigers

Population: Family of Malayan Tigers

Community: Malayan tigers live in the same area as monkeys, lizards, komoto dragons, and more

Ecosystem: All these living animals, plants, trees living with nonliving soil, water, and sunlight

Habitat

Malayan Tiger: Live in dense forests, near food and water sources

Dusky Lead Monkey: Live in dense forests, in the tree beds

Komodo Dragons: Live in burrows, dark places

Orangutan

Keystone Species

The keystone species in the Southeast Asian Rainforest is the orangutan

They keep biodiversity

When they eat the fruit and travel, they disperse the seeds. They are keeping the diversity of the rainforest's woody plants.

They are food for malayan tigers

Interactions

Commenalism

One Species benefits, while the other is neither harmed nor helped

Ex: Poison dart frog use leaves of trees to protect themselves from the sun and rain. The plant is unaffected.

Commenalism

Mutualism

Both species benefit.

Ex: The Capuchin monkey will help new plants to grow by spreading the pollen it collects when eating.

Mutualism

Predation

The consuming of one organism by another

Ex: Malayan tigers eat wild boar and deer

Predation

Parasitism

Unlike predators, a parasite does not immediatly kill its host. However, it weakens or exposes disease.

Ex:

Rafflesia arnoldii "Corpse flower"

A flower looking parasite that attatches to vines, that give it nutrients. Slowly kills the vine.

Different Niches

Niche

Malayan Tigers: Kill the old, sick, weak animals. Prevents overpopulation

Orangutans: Disperse seeds

Komodo Dragons: Eat dead animals to prevent disease from spreading

Sun Bears: Disperse seeds

Many animals in the Southeast Asain rainforest disperse seeds

Orangutans

Orangutans are becoming an endangered species

This is happening becuase of logging

Logging is the mass destruction of trees in forests

Orangutans are losing their homes and lives becuase of this
