Cyberbullying PSA

By: Fletcher Harrington

Some things about cyberbullying

Apart from posting mean comments online (22.5%), spreading rumors (20.1%), and posting sexual remarks (12.1%), cyberbullies among US students commonly use aggressive and pejorative words, threats, profile hacking, and photo-sharing without consent.

A fact

Personal appearance (61%) seems to be the most common reason for cyberbullying, followed by intelligence (25%). Racism (17%) and sexual discrimination (15%) are also frequent tools for discrimination, as well as mocking someone because of their financial difficulties (15%) and religion (11%).

Another fact

in one case a girl named Amanda Todd hung herself at 15 year old because she couldn’t handle all the bullying and cyberbullying that was directed at her.

A story

"I've stopped reading comments fully...It's weird. The cooler the things you get to do, the more people hate you. It's anything for a joke. People say anything to make people laugh. It's insane that I have ever been reading comments. I should've stopped long ago but the problem is I've always wanted to stay in touch with my fans, and people have ruined that for me and for them. That sucks. I still try to like fan posts. If I see fans anywhere I just want to talk to them. They're people, they're me. They're like friends of mine, but the Internet is ruining my life, so I turned it off," Billie Eilish
