Chef Pii (a private chef in Miami) who claims to have been in the food industry for four years. On June 11, 2022, Chef Pii announced the creation of pink sauce and started selling it on July 1, 2022, which sold out sometime around August 3, 2022.
The issue with the pink sauce was its distribution. The pink sauce was accused of having poor food safety procedures due to these facts:
1) The labeling was incorrect - Ingredients were misspelled, serving sizes were incorrect, etc
2) Ingredients
Chef Pii had initially refused to disclose the ingredients list that were used to create the pink sauce (Legally, foods require the ingredients to be listed to fit the standards of identity by the FDA)
3) She didn’t know what the FDA was
When concerns regarding the FDA were brought up to Chef Pii, she said as such;
“What’s the FDA? I don’t sell medical products,”
4) Shipping
Chef Pii sold her product online for $20 a bottle - however, it was sold during summer (in America) and the product was not sold with preservatives or with any company - it was local.
5) Milk
The reason this became such a huge issue was due to one of the main ingredients containing milk. There were no instructions to refrigerate the product or any indication that it WAS refrigerated. Bottles came bloated because of a build up of bacteria that created a gas due to lack of refrigeration
Chef Pii was never sent to court for this as she never received a lawsuit - however, In our opinion the case should be heard in magistrates court as it is not an incident that should be heard about in upper courts such as supreme court as it is more of a civil case.
More specifically, a local court.
Some people believe the sauce is beyond redemption as it caused health issues and sickness.
Some people believe the sauce should be continued to be sold as there are people who are enjoying the product which they got in good condition
Chef Pii herself believes that the pink sauce has nothing wrong with it and she is just “a victim of clout.”
The creator of this case presents her followers with her sauce which at the beginning was fine then it went down hill. For example, the case wouldn’t have gotten the attention it got if it wasn’t for the scandal it caused (eg, bad labeling, bad shipping, expired food, etc etc)
Another idea in this case is that the creator of the sauce is trying to fix her mistakes that she has caused in the past regarding the sauce.
- Pink Sauce will now be sold commercially by Dave's Gourmet Sauces
- Dave’s Gourmet is otherwise known for its suite of pasta sauces and hot sauces, sold at nationwide retailers like Whole Foods, Walmart, and Amazon
Considering the fact that the product blew up on one of the most used social media apps nowadays (Tiktok) which causes the watcher to feel the need to buy it due to the pink sauce being a “Trend” (social influence, which is psychologically related to the individuals thoughts and ideas).
As well as the health of the individuals would be at risk if eating something expired which they paid 20 dollars for only to be ROTTEN.
And considering the health factor that it might be rotten there were not any labels on the product warning individuals that it may possibly be rotten.
The “Pink Sauce” incident can be considered a cautionary tale for those who aspire to sell their own food products as local producers — whilst the example of Chef Pii’s sauce wasn’t a good one, it definitely is a good show of everything you can do WRONG when selling something
on the other hand, there is no doubt that the negative attention the “Pink Sauce” received had influenced its popularity, and its rise to fame may cause other chefs wanting to create their own product to do badly in hopes of receiving the same attention
- Some people did not receive the pink sauce at all (to which they were issued a refund)
- At some point during the controversy Chef Pii created a terms and conditions list for the pink sauce
- “Once the seal is willingly opened on the bottle, it is considered yours and we can not offer any exchange/refund,” “Please understand you are purchasing with free will and FLAVOR CRAZY INC does not indulge in the intention of promoting inadequate products.” (Flavor Crazy is Chef Pii’s restaurant, located in Miami, FL)
- The sauce was made in her kitchen with old ketchup containers
- According to many consumers, the sauce tasted like ranch (reminder: it was $20)
- If you’re curious about the incident as a whole - there’s a bunch of videos online that go through the whole thing in more depth :)
