The company was established in 1967, and has played an important role of building Ghana through more than 50 years.Ghacem was founded by the Government of Ghana in collaboration with Norcem AS of Norway, on August 30, 1967.It is the largest producer of cement in Ghana

Ghacem continues to contribute to the economic development in Ghana with adequate investment to meet the nations needs when it comes to cement production. From 2012 to 2015 Ghacem spent over 52 Million Euros in expansion investment in Tema and Takoradi. Ghacem is a coner stone of Ghana 's infrastractural development having played part in major iconic monuments and buidlings across Ghana using Ghacem cement. These expansion works have improved the quality of Ghacem cement, reduced energy consumption at the plants, ensured efficient production and reduced environmental impact of the plants operations.
