About ME

My Background

My name is Cameron Bass. I was born in Arlington,Texas is 2004. I am a atheist; I am mexican and white, and I identify as Hispanic. Being that I am mixed both of my parents families are from different places. My family on my mothers side are from Mexico, except my grandma. My grandmother is Native American meaning my ancestors are from here as well. On my dads it's predominantly white so I am assuming since their from Louisiana, that they are French.

Concept of Race, Where did it come from?

My opinion

Ever since I was little I have know about race, who hasn't? But, I knew it in the sense of just some of my friends being different skin tones. Of course since I have gotten older I have more knowledge around what race is and how our country has treated race in the past. I believe that the idea of race has stemmed from European settlers. I mean they were the ones who used it for their own gain. European settlers believed the were smarter because they were more advanced than other countries. So the developed a superiority complex against other races and assumed they were better. The used this to get other races to work for them because they were lazy and wanted money. Also using race as a reason to steal land from indigenous cultures. Since this catastrophe people have taken back their culture which is also part of your identity. Everyone should be treated equal and embrace who they are.

My Experiences with Different People and Culture

School.

My first experiences with people of different races that weren't my family was school. Luckily I grew up in a time where race wasn't discriminated against so at school everyone got along and were friends. We were little kids so nobody cared, we just wanted to have fun and do little kid things. Now with different religions, the first major experience I have was a friend I had who was Jehovah's Witness. It was his birthday which his family wasn't going to celebrate. My mom felt bad so we convinced his parents to let us take him to great wolf lodge. They didn't know it was for his b-day but he had fun. It made me realizes different religions are different. For socioeconomic my family used to go give out meals to homeless people. We'd make tacos and tamales, take extra snacks, and drinks for anyone that wanted it. I realized everyone has their own struggles, so treat everyone with kindness. With different sexualities I encountered people at school who had different sexual orientations. They showed me how do be more inclusive and even me myself is part of the lGBTQ+ community.

How my Family Influenced Me?

They did majorly

My family mainly educated me on my culture. So I had it good because I was 2 different ethnics so I already learned to appreciate each because they were so different. Also my Grandma had a lot of friends from every walk of life. She taught me to treat everyone how I wanted to be treated so I've done exactly that. Don't judge and just be a nice human being unless you're disrespected.

Stereotypes from my Point Of View

My views on stereotypes

I don't play into or believe in stereotypes about other races or cultures. I only will make fun of my own because it's just jokes. That's all i have to say on that.
