My Leadership Style
My type of leadership would have to be more of the affiliative style. Because I am the type of person that prefers to converse on a deeper level with people, I like forming relationships with those around me and seeing how well we connect. And I also believe that forming those relationships in a team setting will benefit me as a leader as I know how well each team member works and know what their strengths and weaknesses are.

I am an empathetic person and will try to put myself in someone else’s shoes before I make an opinion or judge their actions. I know that everyone goes through different phases and hardships in life and you never really know what someone is currently going through, the least we can do as humans is to be empathetic to those around us in order to let them know that there is someone one their side that is willing to listen and help. I also believe that everyone’s opinions should be heard and respected especially in a team setting as every member counts and everyone should feel like they matter. Even though not everyone is going to see eye to eye, people should still listen and understand why their beliefs are the way they are.
Formal Leadership Role
I’d like to incorporate the authoritative style of leadership as that is what I am currently lacking in my leadership style.
I consider myself an introvert and a shy person, so having to tell people to “follow me” is something that terrifies me. I want to improve on my confidence and eventually be the type of person who doesn’t doubt herself. Hopefully once I do this I will be a lot more comfortable in taking on challenges that are beyond my capabilities and I will be out of my comfort zone.

What inter-professional Leadership means to me?
G O A L S
Inter-professional leadership to me is having shared responsibility with your peers in the workplace. It is about being able to work together as a team and take on each other’s roles when one feels like they are able to tackle the situation better. So this also means being able to give up a role if one feels like they are not as suitable for the job. Inter-professional leadership to me also means being able to collaborate with not only the nurses on the unit, but those involved in the interdisciplinary team as well.

Being a leader also means being able to follow.
I believe that one will be a better leader if they are first a follower, in order to experience the hardships and victories from a perspective not consumed by power. The servant leadership style is the theory that resonates with me the most when it comes to the personal meaning of inter-professional leadership.
This due to the core values this theory possesses, specifically “shared power”, as it states that “servant leaders want their followers to assume leadership responsibilities when appropriate” (Frey, n.d.) as everyone in the team is treated equally and has a place to voice out their opinions.
