Metaphysical Questions

Existance

What is the meaning of life?

Existance 'exists' because there is something rather than nothing. We exist to fulfill our own passionate needs and desires. I believe this because the term passion can be different for everyone, whether its an activity, a sport, or a job. Passions give motivation and a reason for wanting to do or learn more.

Identity

Abstraction

Identity is what makes us unique, definable and recognizable. Passion is a part of peoples identity, without all the various kinds, everyone would be the same in certain aspects, it would be harder to define others and make social bonds when part of who they are, as well as yourself, is missing.

Immanuel Kant

"Only a rational being has the capacity to act in accordance with the representation of laws, that is, in accordance with principles." - Immanuel Kant

Philosopher

In a few critiques philosopher Immanuel Kant has studyed the meaning of life. In his quote, principles can be precieved as the desires of a being. Desires also corralating with passions, while they may be seemingly different, in his previous studies he mentions the purpose of ones being is to seek the greatest of good, whether of themselves or of others.

“The means of obtaining as much variety as possible, but with the greatest possible order...is the means of obtaining as much perfection as possible." - Gottfried Leibniz

Gottfried Leibniz

Philosopher

Passion holds place as apart of one's identity, Leibniz law states that no two things exactly resemble eachother. The idea of perfection and what it is will always be different for every individual, however it may align in similar ways, your ideal conception of 'perfection' is a part of your identity and what you strive for in life.

Summary

Summary

Through the study and views of existance and identity, passions play a major part in both through one's life, it makes up who we are as a person and helps us strive for greatness that we as individuals see fit. If not for our passions and desires then who are we?

Determinism

Do we have free will?

According to this abstraction, we don't have free will, but rather, our behaviours are influenced by our past experiences, and the causes behind them are beyond our control.

My concept of free will is that we have the option to take an alternative course of action if given the chance, rather than that we are always free to act as we please.

Religion

Abstractions

Dreams in many indigenous cultures hold important significance. The philosophy believes that visions of the future event in your dreams tells that an individual is on the right path in life, and when one stops reciving them, they have strayed from themselves and who they are. This philosophy can resemble the opposite of free will, one's life is already chosen.

Alessandro Casale

"many indigenous societies in North and South America have dream theories and interpertations that reveal a philosophical order about the nature of the universe." - Alessandro Casale

Philosopher

Alessandro mentions in a few pieces of his work the question of free will, and how different cultures and religions can change their views and beliefs. Indigenous culture is one of the many that believe in determinism based off experiences with themselves and of others in the past and their stories.

Arthur Schopenhauer

"Man can do what he wills but he cannot will what he wills." - Arthur Schopenhauer

Philosopher

Arthur believed that motives were pre-determined, however we had some sort of 'free will' to act on these motives. In today's era the discussion and points are different from the past, however looking through a scientific lens could further prove Arthurs philosophy. The concept of gravity cannot be shifted to ones desire, or other natural sources, so does free will really exist if the physical effects on us cannot be changed accordingly?

The quote implies that one can make accomidations for their motives, however we are unable to change these motives ourselves, because our motives have already been determined for us. Only when the option is given can our motives change, but it will not be up to us when or where that happens

Summary

summary

I believe we do not have free will, that our actions and decisions are and were pre-determined for us, we are able to change paths when given the option, but not whenever we please. The term 'free will' is a concept for people to believe they have power and control over their life, it is a form of comfort for some, but inevitably we follow the destined path that was made from the start. Some walk the path without realizing it, but others are aware, and even find comfort in it, knowing everything is planned or that they are on the right track.
