  • Rainsford falls overboard but survives by swimming to the island.

Inciting Incident

  • Rainsford learns that he will be hunted by General Zaroff.
  • If he is still alive after three days, he will be allowed to leave.

Rising Action(s)

Rising Action

  • Rainsford sets traps for the General.
  • Ivan, the General's dogs, and the General himself all become victims in some way to Rainsford's traps.
  • Both men come in contact with each other many times throughout the rising action, but Rainsford eludes the General each time.
  • When Rainsford is cornered, he jumps off a cliff and into the sea.
  • General Zaroff believes Rainsford is dead and returns home.
