caused by the snapping of the ropes
Ancient Times
Ancient Times
- tales of Vitruvius ( an ancient writer) wrote that Archimedes
was the first to devise the "elevator"
- used pulleys and ropes to control and lift this system
- this was mainly just a lift platform and it gradually innovated
overtime
-"Elevators" helped carry the gladiators, people, contruction items,
and water
First Elevator invented
First Elevator invented
1743: King Louis XV(15) built "flying chair"
- the flying chair was just like a cabinet hoisted up by ropes
-reason: for his mistress to go to the third floor of
his palace
-no one used it after multiple accidents, which left people
no choice but to abandon this invention
-to this day, the flying chair still exists

Elisha Otis patens the elevator brake
1852: builds his blueprints and the elevator brake in Yorker, New York
1853: revelas his creation by standing high on the platform. He cut the
ropes that lifted him up, and to everyones suprise, Otis didn't die by fall.
Instead the elevator brakes helped keep him steady.
1861: patens the elevator brake
-caused a positive uproar which shocked the nation and soon became very popular
-Otis is known to have invented the "modern elevator" which is the basic structure of the elevator that we use today.
Impacts: Skyscrapers Arise

1857: Otis presents his invention, the safe elevator which
became a major breakthrough that made history
-due to the safety granted, many blueprints of buildings
incoorperated elevators that access the "grand view"
; as well as less stair climbing to help ease the climb
-Otis created a buisness with his his two sons which sold
millions of elevators, and to this day is still open and running
-since 2000 the amount of tall buildings have tripled
Automatic Doors
Automatic Doors
1944: Joseph Giovanni patens "sensitive door bumper"
- safe for the interference
- infrared and ultrasound sensors help detect if
something is in the way of the door
-opens back up easily if interference occurs
Double Deck Elevators
Double Deck Elevators
-1931: two spaces on top of each other so that they both
could arrive at different destinations in one trip
-saves money and power by reducing the trips used
-it could carry twice as many people and their weight
without damage or risking a fall
Present Day
Present Day
-includes elevator music, fancy accessories
-runs smoothly with the use of elevator brakes
and transformed into electric motors
-automatic doors added with safety censors
-extremely rare for any accidents occurring
-elevators travel faster and easier
-found in millions of schools, hospitals, buildings, hotels etc..
The Future
The Future
- 2050: Japenese reveal elevators in space may be possible
-end of 2016: Germans want to develop a "magnetic" elevator
without the use of cables to lift it up (prototype)
- sideway elevators are being thought of as of this day
- become more faster, smoother, and efficient
- expand the space for it to be more of a luxorious spot
