THE BEE ARMY

HIVE MONITORING SYSTEM

FARM TYPES

BEEKEEPING

MARKET

OF THE USA

212,000

BEEKEEPING MARKET

OF THE USA

  • 2,710,000 bee colonies

(beehives) in 2019

  • Turnover in 2021 ~$636.3М
  • Minimal impact of COVID-19 & politics

10,000

The potential market for the use of devices in the US ~ 2 million units

5% of the market - turnover in sales of

$14M with the average unit cost of ~$145

1,000

HOBBYIST BEEKEEPERS (~ 212K farms)

  • Own several (often 2) hives «for the soul» in the yard
  • Beekeeping is not the main source of income
  • Willing to spend any amount of money to buy cool gadgets to monitor and save their bees

HOBBY

The largest segment generating a lot of sales of expensive configurations.

Are desirable for the Project, including its image, have the ability to demonstrate as many features of the device as possible.

SIDELINE BEEKEEPERS (~ 10K farms)

  • Own a few dozens of beehives (possibly 100-200)
  • Beekeeping is a secondary source of income
  • Care about the wellbeing of beehives, want to avoid significant losses
  • Often move beehives for overwintering

SIDELINE

Desirable for the Project as the main cosumer of systems in various configurations and a wide range of different sensors

COMMERCIAL (~1,000 farms)

The most profitable crops in the USA and their dependance on pollination by bees

  • Own between a few hundrends to a few thousands beehives
  • Beekeeping is the main source of income
  • Usually make their money from pollination and beehives sales
  • Beehives are being constantly moved
  • Experience issues with losing bee colonies during transport due to poor conditions and stealing from where the beehives are stationed

COMMERCIAL

Area of almond plantations and the price of renting the bee colonies

No mass market due to possible extensive expences for consumers. Possible purchase of singular modules of the system (example - GPS positioning)

THE CONCEPT OF THE SYSTEM

Autonomy of work up to 1 year

The system consists of several devices

Access your data from anywhere

  • Data collection
  • Processing of events
  • Storage and display of data in the cloud
  • SMS/PUSH notifications
  • Yearly subscription

CONCEPT OF THE SYSTEM

Visualization of a lot of types of data

A wide selection of sensors allows to adjust the parameters to the needs of every type of a bee farm

Notifications about what is happening and what is expected

HOW IT WORKS

SENSORS

The bee colony maintains a constant temperature in the beehive. One may estimate the state of the colony by the temperature in its hive. One can determine the levels of honey in the beehive by its weight.

Sensors can both be independent devices or devices that can be installed in the cover of the beehive

Beehives are often left in the locations with minimal human traffic, but around lots of wildlife that loves honey. The sensors can alert you of shaking or moving and the light or the opening of the cover, which can indicate that something happened to the beehive.

  • Temperature/humidity
  • Movement/shaking
  • Coordinates look-up
  • Frequency/noice level
  • Light/opening of the cover
  • Weight

SENSORS

Commercial beekeepers often move beehives from one spot to another, and it is crucial for them to know where their beehives are at any given moment.

  • The set of sensors satisfyes the needs of all types of bee keepers
  • All sensors are cordless
  • The sensors can work with autonomy for up to 1 year

Bees make noises at low frequencies. By knowing the frequency and the level of noise, one can identify events and issues like the loss of queen bee, readiness to swarm, presence of pestss and overall health of the colony.

HUB

Bee farms are often located far from humans and are left without supervision for months. Hub is used for constant data collection to the cloud and real time alerts about critical events and issues that happen in the hive.

Comes as a sealed and waterproof unit

A security camera can be installed/ connected to the hub if needed.

HUB

  • Works in WiFi 2,4 & 5 GHz
  • Supports LTE 4G
  • Range radius up to 25 meters
  • Autonomous work 24/7
  • Protection from humidity and dust
  • Connect up to 200 sensors

Capatious accamulator and a solar battery ensure uninterrupted work of the hub even in tough weather

Used for collection, preliminary processing, storage and transfer of the data collected from the sensors to the cloud server. Installment of several options is available.

Hub is placed in a sealed and waterproof unit with a handle and a spot for a lock. The lock can be installed to secure the unit or to prevent theft.

CLOUD SERVER

Cloud servers are located in the US and Europe

SERVER

  • Graphs monitoring the data with marks of significant events
  • Predictive modeling of processes of swarming and wellness of the hive
  • Creation and sending notifications about events in the hive

Virtual cloud servers allow for unlimited storage of data during the usage of the system, which can is accessible 24/7 all year round

APP FOR YOUR SMARTPHONE

An app for iOS and Android

APP

  • Initial system set up
  • Events archive and graphs
  • Farms maps
  • PUSH notifications
  • Subscription

The app is a tool for the initial system set up, its configuration and its monitoring

COMPETITION

OVERVIEW

There are about 10 manufacturers of beehive monitoring systems in the world market

COMPETITORS

  • The market started developing a few years ago
  • Sensors start at $35
  • Systems for 8 beehives start at $1200
  • Subscriptions start at $100/year

The systems from several manufacturers are able to connect to the American global system used to monitor bees

FINANCIAL MODEL

The usage of standard micro computers and hub modems accelerate the development during the initial stage, minimizes the initial cost and the readiness of the system for the market

Planned global market share - 5%

USA in 5 years

Sales start - Q3~Q4 2022

There is no need for additional FCC certifications due to the usage of the standard components of the system

  • Project pipeline - 5 years
  • Development timeline - 6 mon
  • Payback period - 3 years
  • Required investment 1М
  • Free cash flow - 7.8M
  • NPV 107%

FINANCIAL MODEL

The developed components of the system are expected to be produced locally during the initial sales stage. After entering the world market, it is possible to move manufacturing to China.

Sales will be done by local distributors in their perspective areas and directly with MSRP

Separately - special offers for local communities of beekeepers

Data exchange between local monitoring systems through the central server allows the use of a trainable neural network for the improvement of the forecasting notifications in the process of exploitation of the already sold systems
