In 2012 when I was 4, after my parents had stoped reading to me, I saw my brother reading a book with a cool cover. I wanted to read it, so I made that happen.
I vaguely remember when I first started reading I was reading The Berenstain Bears. I also read a lot of the Boxcar Chilidren, but I do not remember people reading to me before that. I just remember trying to understand the meaning of the words in the book.
I remember waiting until he left the room so I could sneak in and take the book. I liked the book, and began going through all of his books. I specificly remember one of the stories was about a bird that died in winter.
My nieghbor, Averie, would always be reading, no matter what was going on. After I became serious about reading she was talking about a book to her friends, which was a book I had recently read, so I intergected and began conserving with them all.
Most of the time when I read I felt like I was not being challenged . Then I always saw my brother reading cool books while I was reading lame ones. That drove to take and read them.
I also Read, "The Big Red Book of Beginner Books." It had a lot of stories that I really liked. This book was one of the very few books I remember to this day. It included the titles, "Go Dog Go, Sam and the Firefly, and Stop That Ball."
After re-reading all those books so many times I became board of them,so I asked my parents for more books.
My mom gave me two choices for a book I could read. It was between Super Fudge and some other book I can not remember the title to. I really enjoyed the book and after I finished it I asked my mom if she could buy the next book in the series.
I had read one Sherlock holmes book, and asked my mom for another. My mom then then bought me the entire seies in one book. It was a hardcover book with a built in bookmark. I found it somewhat a little bit more difficult to read, but over all I liked the way it felt.
I saw this book at the bookstore, and I began reading it. After a chapter I asked my mom if I could read it. She told me that we could buy it if I did more work around the house. When we came back home I immediately began doing more chores to earn the book. After doing housework for a week my mom said we could buy it.
I know the author, and did not expected to like the books. Now I can not read enough of his books. I remember the day he asked me to read his book, I kept telling my self, "Man this guy knows how to write his books, I wonder who he is." I would have to tell myself that I know the author.
Everytime I tell someone that the author is my dad, they ussally tell me that I am only trying to promote my dad's books. When I am really not, I just genuenly enjoy his stories.
"Sledge" was the first horror book I have ever read. I had a positive experience reading this book, and has motavated me to read more horror books.
I remember a period of my life when I just did not read for a year. I forgot how to read fast and how to retain what I had just read. I remember being so frustrated.
It started the summer of 2020 when Covid hit. I stopped reading because I did not have spare time because I spent it all on electronics. Another weird thing happened when school started, for some odd reason I did not have a single English class.
I remember that when I tried getting back into reading halfway through the year, it was so difficult for me that I just gave up.
I remember that in order to move to the next level of reading I must master the basics again. I began reading everyday, and used reading strategies to improve my comprehention.
My first step when getting back into reading was just reading the stories. I then began to slowly intertwine some reading strategies to improve my reading and comprehention.
I remember working really hard for the entirety of 2021 to make up for my slacking off in 2020. After eighth grade I saw that I had improved drastically. I knew that I had to keep working and studying so I would not fall behind again.
I remember asking myself this question because even though I had learned a lot, I still needed to learn how to keep learning. I usually have a pattern, I will stop learning for a while then I will have to suddenly put a lot of study time in to catch up. Afterwards, I will go back to what I was doing causing me to dump everything I learned. This time has been different so far and I will make sure that I stick with it.
I thought Literature would be really hard and unforgiving. It has been a big change from acting like a middle schooler and to have to start acting like an adult. It is also very hard to step up to from doing middle schooler homework to doing college homework. I think I have found my rythm in school. I will continue to learn and improve throughout highschool.
