Who are these people?

Gregory Blaxland, William Wentworth and William Lawson went on a journey across the Blue Mountains. With them they took three convicts, 4 pack horses and five dogs. They also brought along James Burns, who hunted kangaroos in the mountains.

The horses carried heavy loads which contained equipment, like six weeks worth of food, seven hand guns,chips, compasses, a hoe and tools for cutting.

These amazing people found grazing land for the settlement as it was growing larger. It was essential for them to have more grazing land to grow food for the colony.

In 1813 there was a bad drought which damaged crops and killed many sheep and cattle causing a food shortage. They needed to find a way across the Blue Mountains, and many tried. However they always ended up blocked by steep mountain walls.

I could never complete this trip! Throughout most of the trip there were deep rocky valleys making it very dangerous, if they fell off the edge they would die. To add to it all the dew on the ground made it very slippery for them. Due to the dew, a couple of horses fell but they got back up and continued walking. At night they were forced to spend the cold windy nights away from the camp fire because of the aboriginals who were continuously followed them. To add to it all they had to cut their way through the dense bushland.

When the men where cutting their way through the bushland and cutting footholds for the horses so that they would not slip, their hands were skinned.

Even though they had these hard times they managed to find a way through the Blue mountains an established valuable grazing land.
