This island in general is my love for animals. Ever since I got a cat, I have started to like animals more. I cannot think about living in my house without an animal there to greet me or be annoying. This island contains many different types of animals that I have met some time throughout my life. This island continues to grow everyday with the new memories and experiences I get with my cat and other animals.
When I was 10, my family got a cat. I asked my mom for a cat and she originally said no but slowly changed her mind. When we were looking for a cat, I found one near our house and my parents said that we would go and look. That night, we adopted the cat and bought everything we needed for him. The next morning, we brought him home and started to get used to having an animal in the house. At first, my brother and I did not really like the cat, we had to do more and had more responsibilities. This memory will last for a very long time, especially because my cat is still at home and is still annoying sometimes.

At the end of Elementary School, I was very sad about leaving the only school that I was ever taught in. I did not want to leave. My parents kept telling me how great middle school was, but so many people contradict their statements. Throughout Elementary School, I made great friends and had great teachers who had fun (one had a sand pit in her classroom). When I was leaving, I made sure to remember that day that I left and how I felt.
On my last day of Elementary School, I was waiting for my bus in a classroom with the library teacher and my neighbor. We were all having fun together. Then, I went around to all of my teachers and said goodbye to them. I remember this day very clearly because I remember being very sad. I loved my teachers and did not want to leave my first school. When I got on the bus, I was sad but a small part of me was super excited for the next part of my life.

When I was growing up, I would go to school and then go to volleyball. On the off days when I was not at volleyball practice, I was in my backyard practicing. Throughout my elementary school years, volleyball was always there and was going strong. I had some great memories (including winning a hard game) but also some bad memories (like losing a game with getting no points throughout). The bad games and days made the good ones so much better. Overall, I learned how to take a loss, how to grow with practice, and how to have fun on a team.
I used to play volleyball when I was in Elementary school. During this time, I had some great memories. The most memorable time was when we won a game after going into overtime. The game was very long and I was the last one up to serve. I went to serve and I tried something new. I served overhand. This last serve could not be returned and we won the game. I was so proud of myself and so happy. The whole team all got together after and had snacks. We all won medals for winning and were all so happy.
My freshman year, I joined the Marching Band. Throughout my years at AFHS, I have continued to participate in the Marching Band and the Winter Guard. We have won Grand Champion (beat all other bands) at 6 competitions. At each competition that we won, we were not expecting the win and therefore were super excited and happy to have won. In Winter Guard, we have won first place multiple times (at least twice every year and one year we won it 4 times) as well as getting 2nd at the South East Championships.
My freshman year of marching band, we got grand champions (when you beat all other bands at that competition) at my first ever competition. It was such a special night. We all ran on the field and said our chants. We were jumping and hugging each other and celebrating together! It was such an amazing experience. After that first competition, we won grand champion 2 more times that year and at each win, did the same thing (ran on the field and celebrated). Nothing will ever come close to the first win though. That win was so surprising to all of us. We did not think that we would win but we did. That night, when I got home, I felt so proud to be part of the marching band. This is a core memory because I have never and probably will never feel anything like how I felt that night again. That was a very special night for all of the freshmen in 2018.

When I got my car, I started to drive my friend home every day from school. I have so many great memories with her on the ride home. We go to eat sometimes (we leave during lunch), especially after a hard day, and laugh the entire way home. I also have started to drive my parents around a lot more (they don't really like to drive) and have more memories with us all in the car having fun. My car is a vehicle that is always full of laughter and fun. The car is definitely a special place for my family and my friends.
My parents decided that when I graduated high school, I could get my own car. Seeing how the market is right now, they decided to start looking a couple months ago. We went to a dealership and explained to them what we were looking for. We test drove a couple cars and liked one. That night we got a call that the same car we liked came in for another family (who have been waiting for months for it to come in because of the shortages) and they decided that they did not want it. Our salesman helped us see the car before anybody else (we ran to the car because we were so excited). That night, I got a new car. It was so random and we all did not believe it when it happened. The market was so bad: they could not get any new cars and there were no used cars. This is a core memory because ever since I got this car, I have had so many great memories with friends and family while I was driving.
My senior year of high school was/is one of the most memorable years so far in my life. I have had so many great memories including: Winter Guard, Marching Band, preparing for college, hanging out with friends and more. Throughout this year, I have learned so much and have gotten closer with all of my friends. This is an island because this year has helped me so much and everything that I have learned within this year will help me for the rest of my life. It was difficult at first for me to decide on a core memory because there were so many great memories on this island.
While preparing for college, doing school, and worrying about exams, the winter guard got together a while ago. During our get together, we just had fun. It was great to be able to hang out with the people who you are about to leave to go to college. During the night, we made hotdogs and smores over a fire pit, explored some woods, and talked…a lot. This night is my core memory because whenever I think about high school and my senior year, I think of all my friends who have made this year amazing. I will not forget this night or these memories for a very long time.
