The spacecraft launched on September 8, 2016 and still hasn't landed yet, but on September 24, 2023 the sample of the asteroid dislodged from the spacecraft and delivered safely on earth. now the spacecraft is going on a new mission and is called OSIRIS-APEX.

They wanted to get a sample to document the soil and topography of the asteroid to learn more about life billions of years ago when different asteroids smashed into the earth. They wanted to find out if the organic compounds we have now are from asteroids.
