Picture Graphs

Today we are going to explore a new topic. This week we will be working with GRAPHS.

Focus: Picture Graphs

Learning Intention: We are learning to interpret & represent known data in picture graphs.

This is the easiest type of graph.

See whether you remember this information about picture graphs.

I

REMEMBER!

Every time you complete a picture graph, the Title, Labels, Symbols and the Key must be included.

The Key is the most important one. If you do not pay attention to the key, all your answers could be incorrect.

Let’s look at the first pictograph:

M

Here, 1 bicycle represents 5 bicycles according to the key. So, how many bicycles were sold by Robert?

So, how many bicycles were sold by Robert?

Well, the key tells us that 1 picture of a bike in the graph actually represents 5 bikes. And there a re 5 bikes pictured next to Roberts name.

So, 5 X 5 = 25. Therefore, 25 bicycles were sold by Robert.

Another Example:

Who sold the least number of bicycles?

Looking at the Graph, we can see that Smith has the least number of bikes pictures next to his name, therefore, Smith sold the least number of bicycles. And because we know that 1 picture of a bicycle represents 5 bicycles, we can also determine that Smith sold 5 bicycles in total.

Wasn’t that easy!

Now I want you to apply your knowledge and complete the following activities. you will need to pause the video and answer the questions. Please do not copy the graph or the questions.

Simply name them

Activity 1, Activity 2 & Activity 3

Activities

Activity 1

Activity 1

Answer Questions 1& 2 in your Remote Learning book now.

Activity 2

Activity 2

Answer Questions 3& 4 in your Remote Learning book now.

Activity 3

Activity 3

Answer Questions 5& 6 in your Remote Learning book now.

TASK 1A

Task 1A

Pause the video and answer the questions for the following graph. It has more information than the previous ones. You do not need to draw the graph or write the questions in your book. Simply write the question number and the answer. Please have the title 'Task 1A.'

Task 1A

Task 1B

Copy & complete the following tally table in your remote learning book and use the data to complete a picture graph. Remember to include the tile, labels, symbols and the key. Also, remember to colour your graph as well.

Task 1B

Remember to include the tile, labels, symbols and the key. Also, remember to colour your graph as well.

Challenge Time!

Once you have finished your pictograph, write 5 questions using the data in your graph and then answer them. Look at the questions in previous graphs to help you create your own questions.
